Xtratufs aren’t nicknamed the Southeast Sneaker without reason. They are the quintessential boot you’ll wear year round. Practicality is the point, whether you wear them for a skiff ride, dog walk, or slip them on for a quick trip to the store, you’ll find your feet don’t stay any dryer!
Here are several different looks and examples of how to style Xtra Tuf’s, because you’ll eventually give in and buy a pair.
A Quick History
The Xtratuf was created in Alaska, for Alaskans. And it has taken on a style all of their own. While the design has pretty much remained the same for over 50 years now, women all over the state are learning to style them through different day to day outfits.
Sweater Weather!
Chunky sweaters are a girl's best friend. Not only do they disguise food babies, but they also provide endless amounts of coziness. And once the weather chills out a bit, there isn't anything we want more than to feel warm! Pairing a chunky sweater with skinny jeans tucked in always work, or a pair of boot cut jeans over the boots. Make sure to wear wool socks under, because everyone loves cozy toes!
Spring
As the snow melts, and the sun peaks out in between the spring rain showers, there are all sorts of great ways to pair XtraTufs, especially since Southeast Alaska tends to have drastic weather changes several times throughout the day. Finding transitional pieces are key. Between the snow, slush, and rain, these boots will get you through it.
Pair your Xtratufs with dresses and a structured jacket. Always weigh them out, meaning the boot itself is somewhat of a heavy look. So a moto-jacket is a great way to create equal amount of "weight" so to speak.
Summer
When the rain pours hard enough you give in, but when the sun shines endlessly XtraTufs still make great boots for outings in your skiff, or hiking up the mountain after it rains to avoid the mud!
Fall
Fall in Southeast Alaska can sometimes start in August, other times we won't get any real hints until October! Every year is different, but as long as your outfit is comprised of layers, you'll be good to go!
Winter
Xtra Tuf's are a girl's best friend in winter because when things get slushy, your feet can stay dry! If you work in an office, you'll wear these from your car to your desk, then switch into something a little more work appropriate. When I worked for the State of Alaska I always kept mine at my desk so I could run out for lunch, or go on a stroll for break. You can trudge through puddles and slush without getting your slacks dirty!
Year Round
Southeast Alaska has a very moderate climate since we're right on the coast and get the warm winds from the South Pacific throughout the year making our weather similar to a lot of other areas with cooler climates. Even if you don't live in Southeast Alaska these looks will work for any northern girl!
Hoodie season is every season!
The Ampersand Avenue hoodies make essential Alaskan wear! They are easily layer able or can hold their own with a pair of jeans and Tuf's! Alaska style is centered around casual pieces that always have some unique touch and always hold a little bit of practicality. Not only do these hoodies have thumb holes for coziness, but they have a double hooded feature and side collar detail that is every hoodie-girl's favorite!
If you've lived in Alaska or are coming to visit, these outfits will definitely give you a starting point when building your wardrobe!
