Even after combing through the colorful markets of La Bufadora, Mexico, I still find myself pairing wildness with a slice and a dash of black. Somehow it shows off your tan, gives off the right vibe, and let's be serious about the power of a little black dress. Sure, you can embellish with good hair and gems, but you’ll never replace the simple elegance of something black. To investigate one layer further, a research project done by Washington State University ran a study on the color theory of black and how it exudes visual communication to fellow females. Their study sample was of Vogue's top preforming issues of March, July, and September from 2000 - 2018. Of course they concluded that there are many meanings behind wearing the color, but the top two consistently say that wearing black convey being chic and sophisticated.
It's also interesting to note that our generation has introduced active wear and work wear into the many categories of reasons a woman might wear black. Holy Women's rights! Our grandmothers couldn't do what we do every day. First of all, as if having access to a gym, or a career isn't a feat on its own, having the choice to wear what we want in our daily lives is a life our great grandmothers probably couldn't see coming.
