A tight window of summer solstice season can open up an underworld. There are a few spots I have identified as places I'd like to practice and enjoy free diving. I look for dark sanded beaches to help warm nearshore waters on incoming tides, I look for low traffic areas, shell sanded bottoms, and visibility. Some are accessible by road, others a small watercraft will do!

By Road

  • Sunshine Cove over to the island is a place I'd love to try. Easy shore access, generally no wind, often sunny conditions. Visibility is dependent on season.
  • Climber's Wall is a pullout location past Lena. This spot works well to dive a wall, visibility was poor when we went.
  • Auke Rec northern sand islands at Indian Cove. Heavy boat traffic close to Coglan Island but towards the shore could be really fun!

By Boat

Sea is the limit! The more time and the better boat you have you could really have some fun!

  • Between Little and Big Suedla, love this location for its low key vibe. Protected well from weather and traffic, warmer water.
  • Ideally away from glaciers. Need to explore more!

*Watch for Sea Lions and jellyfish!

Cheers!
